newborn visit doctorThe first two years of your child’s life are the most important in their growth and development. Checkups are important throughout adolescence, but more frequent visits from birth through two years are highly recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Sarmiento sees children from their very first appointment—around 3-5 days—to their teenage years (and often beyond). Get the support you need for your newborn and gain a doctor you can trust throughout your baby’s development. Call our team at 714-771-2229 to schedule an appointment.

Your baby’s checkup schedule

Uncertain about when your baby should visit Dr. Sarmiento? Please call our office with any specific questions about your visit date and time. Otherwise, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following schedule:

  • Within the first 2 weeks
  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 2 years
  • 2 ½ years
  • 3 years
  • Every year following

Of course, this schedule is largely dependent on your child’s needs. It’s not uncommon for babies to have different needs based on their growth and development.

What to expect from your newborn visit

Beginning with your newborn’s first examination, Dr. Sarmiento will check for normal reflexes, hip stability, and all the signs of normal development. From there, each visit with your baby will include some of the same steps:

  • Measuring weight, length, and head circumference, and continuously monitoring growth.
  • A physical examination, including eyes, ears, mouth, skin, and all necessary health checks. In the crucial early weeks and months, the doctor will also track normal growth and development.
  • Immunizations and tests.
  • Answering questions about breastfeeding and lactation.
  • A chance to bring up any concerns about growth and development, nutrition, and more.
